KBOO DJs on the front line of change and challenge
I find it easy to listen to the radio and applaud our DJs and radio producers for the good work they are doing: exposing truth, healing us from daily harshness through amazing music, and keeping the edge of education and uncomfortable radio balanced enough for us to learn from each other and further work towards making our racist and colonial power structures to fall.
Then, there are nights like these, when you hear how much struggle and hard work it is, because a great DJ is attacked viciously by a repetitive racist caller. jamilah experienced that last week on “Guess Who’s Coming to Radio?” and she did an amazing job. She is on the front line of this culture war, and I wanted to write about this, to urge you to listen to the audio here, and to thank you for your support in making this platform possible for us to fight hate with intelligent conversation, community support, and amazing music. Thanks jamilah for all that you do, and thank you members for making it actually possible, and thank you listeners that night for your support of jamiilah, and of KBOO. We will keep it up, I promise.
