Project to document American roots music
Hi, I'm Diane Karl from the morning "folk-strip".
I'd like to let you know about the MusicBox Project, a non-profit organization seeking to document American roots music. The directors are Dyann & Rick Arthur from Mill Creek WA. As part of their effort they have their own channel on YouTube: www.youtube.com/musicboxproject
Right now you can watch a well-done short film entitled "Americana Women:Roots Musicians - Women's Tales & Tunes" with oral histories and performances of female performers in many areas of roots music.
Portland connections in the uploaded videos on the same YouTube page include performances by local artists Lauren Sheehan and Mary Flower plus a variety of performances from the recent Portland Old-Time Music Gathering 2012. I plan on including some of the artists highlighted in the film and accompanying videos in my upcoming shows (Early Morning Gumbo), but you can check them out anytime!
I hope this turns you on to some new artists.
