Tillicum Wawa 3-1-12

Tonight began a new format for us at Tillicum Wawa. The plan is to have Eugene and I alternate with Redwillow every other week.

Tonight, Eugene and I talked about the John T. Williams memorial totem pole being raised in Seattle, and played the music that accompanied the video on Brenda Norrell's blog, Censored News Indigenous Peoples and Human Rights. Watch the video and see how love overcame hate...this time.

Additionally, we had a Lakota matriarch, Regina Brave, talk about treaty rights and the impact the Keystone XL oil pipe will have on her people, via a youtube video. I appreciated her quiet but powerful explanation of women's place in the Lakota society and the world...

We had several music choices and featured Robbie Robertson's album Contact from the Underworld of Redboy. We finally found it in our junk after settling in to our new home. It's so old, though, that we ought to replace it.
