GRASSROOTS FESTIVAL PROMOTES SUSTAINABLE LIVING IN SE PORTLAND

Portland, Ore., August 2, 2011 –Tickets are on sale now for the sixth annual Muddy Boot Festival, a three-day grassroots eventin southeast Portland that promotes sustainable living, through Brown Paper Tickets. This year’s festival will kick off Friday, Sept. 9 with a keynote address from Joel Makower and continue throughout the weekend with music, food and beverage, workshops, panel discussions, kids’ activities and an outdoor marketplace featuring local vendors and exhibitors.This year’s theme is “Health + Happiness: Sustaining Vibrant Communities,” from healthy eating to the health of our economy and everything in between.

JoelMakower’s keynote address will open the festival at 7:00pm on Friday, Sept. 9. For more than 20 years, Joel Makower has been a well-respected voice on business, the environment, and the bottom line. As a writer, speaker, and strategist on corporate environmental practices, clean technology, and green marketing, he has helped a wide range of companies align environmental responsibility with core strategy and business success. Tickets to the keynote event cost $12 in advance and $15 at the door.

The outdoor festival will take place Sept. 10-11 at St. Philip Neri, 2408 SE 16th Ave, with live music from local bands and artists including TapWater,the Freak Mountain Ramblers, Keep Your Fork, There’s Pie and Colleen Raney; sustainably produced food, beer and wine; discussion panels, educational workshops and other fun activities for families and children; and information and merchandise available from more than 70 local vendors and exhibitors. Tickets to the outdoor festival are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Kids under 12 years of age may attend for free.
