SIGNAL PATH INTERVIEW
For almost a decade, Signal Path’s mission has been to push the boundaries of electronic music in the performance setting. As one of the pioneers of their genre, Signal Path has influenced countless artists across the country, been downloaded by tens of thousands of loyal fans nationwide, played almost every major US festival, and has gained international recognition for their live shows.
In the next phase of Signal Path, and almost two years since their last major tour, fans find the band producing a sound that has become more mature, authoritative, and immense. While still blending both live instrumentation and computer generated production, Signal Path is creating some of the most progressive music in their history. Originally a duo, Signal Path comes full circle with Ryan Burnett producing and playing guitar and Damon Metzner on the acoustic drums. This configuration allows the sound to become focused, spontaneous, and rich.
With a new record made available to their fans absolutely free through their website www.signalpathmusic.com, The Path is back, updated, and will be coming to a city near you. Check back soon for added tour dates, show info, news, or to just download the free album! Peace! -sp

Blockhead grew up in downtown New York City. The son of an artist, early on he found his passion was for music. A fan of a whole range of sounds, especially hip-hop, Blockhead steadily built a tremendous collection of tapes and later CDs from innumerable artists. After a brief stint as a rapper, he realized his calling was behind the boards and not on the mic, and from there he began to produce beats.
Since making that decision, he's been kept pretty busy. Blockhead produced 9 tracks on Aesop Rock's critically acclaimed album Labor Days. Additionally he produced half the tracks on Aesop's follow up EP, Daylight. Blockhead has also been working with other indie giants such as Slug of Atmosphere, Murs, Mike Ladd and SA Smash. He also found time to complete a break beat album entitled Blockhead's Broke Beats, with 10 hard hitting instrumental tracks, which was released on Mush Records, the US home of cLOUDDEAD. And just to prove that he ain't all about art-rap, Blockhead produced 2 tracks on the newly crowned Skribble Jam Battle Champ, MacLethal's full-length album. Oh, and the guy does comedy, too. He's a member of the Party Fun Action Committee who's hip-hop/comedy debut album was recently released on the legendary Def Jux. And what was the other thing? Oh yeah, exquisite, emotional instrumental hip hop on the one and only Ninja Tune…

Hear an exclusive interview with the elusive Featured artist "TAKE"
and new tracks of his as a preview for Thursdays show 6.17.10
@TheReportLounge...
As the electronic music world lifts an interested eyebrow towards the
West Coast's burgeoning "Beat Scene," Take aka Sweatson Klank has
risen to the top as one of the new generation’s finest producers. In a
musical landscape that is quickly becoming overcrowded, Take fuses his
own brand of future-flung electronics with elements of avant-garde
jazz, subharmonic melodies and a mean hip hop bounce.
A multi-instrumentalist and frequency fanatic with ten years of
releases and live performance experience, Take's formula is ever
evolving and his productions clearly sprinkled with his unique sonic
vocabulary. Constantly growing, Take uses engaging melodies,
non-linear development and a multi-strata slump to communicate a fresh
feeling of movement in every track. Embracing his geographic legacy in
the thriving LA experimental beat community but still very much his
own player, Take makes music that charts its own course through a
gurgling fuzz of rich layers and textures. His sound has always been
about pushing forward, breaking ground and laying a new path for
producers to walk.
Take’s musical catalog includes releases for labels like All City, Eat
Concrete, Circulations, Buttermilk, Poobah, Inner Current, Swedish
Brandy and Astro Lab, as well as remixes and compilation tracks for
the likes of Warp, Plug Research, Power Shovel Audio, Dublab,
Circulations, and many others.
Take has been championed on various influential radio programs by the
likes of Mary Anne Hobbs, Benji B, Giles Peterson, Carlos Nino, and
Garth Trinidad. He has performed at the some of the most highly
regarded club nights and festivals around the world such as Low End
Theory, Sonar Music Festival and The Loud Minority amongst others.
Take has also shared the stage with the likes of Flying Lotus, Ras G,
Glitch Mob, SamIYam, Nosaj Thing, Kode 9, Busdriver, Mos Def, Prefuse
73, Mike Slott, Hudson Mohawke and more.
2010 sees the highly anticipated release of Take’s full-length album,
“Only Mountain,” on the highly acclaimed label Alpha Pup Records on
April 20. High in psychedelic pulp and littered with gritty layers of
electronic emotion, the new endeavor has been described as “a roiling
pot of old school IDM, ’90s R&B percussive elements, dubstep
bass-derived doom, and ethereal melodies” by Chris Martins of the LA
Weekly. In addition, Take will drop an EP on Japanese label
Circulations, a record for Netherlands-based label Eat Concrete, and a
12" EP on All City Records during 2010- quite the busy year indeed.
Describing his music as “rooted in hip hop but on a spaceship headed
for a new and better place…somewhere out there,” Take may not know
exactly where his beats will end up- but he is taking us along for the
ride.

KUSH ARORA-
Kush Arora has been sculpting sound in San Francisco

tunes walk the balance between the dancehall and the studio.
With these fiery and futuristic stylings, he wears many hats
all rooted in dub and electronica in his seven record collection.
Active in SF, he is a member of the Surya Dub Crew which has
been at the center for dread bass, dubstep, and electronica

likes of BassNectar, Thievery Corporation, The Bug, and Flying Lotus all
in the past 9 months has kept him busy on the road.
Busy as a remixer, he’s remixed Balkan Beat Box,
Zion I, and many more. His work has caught attention of Pitchfork mag,
calling him a “laptop musician extraodinaire who’s pioneering,”
BBC 1’s Mary Anne Hobbes dubbing his Brooklyn To SF cd
“a beautiful piece of work”,and great support from XLR8R,
LA Weekly, SFGuardian, The CMJ, and Mix Magazine.
The recent release “The Dread Bass Chronicles” features the

As part of KBOO's Spring Membership Drive, EVAN BLUETECH and his band SATORI SOCIAL will be visiting the studio on "The Melting Pot" Tuesday 5/11/10 from 8-10pm. We'll be listening to the new album "Love Songs to the Source", talking about the release, tour, and the importance of non commercial radio in Portland and the world today.
Evan Bluetech is a classically trained pianist and master of the art of software production. Always keeping an ear open for new sounds, and stretching his musical palette with numerous aliases and collaborations, he proudly presents his new band Satori Social. Not limited by subgenre or stylistic restrictions, he is always looking to explore new sounds with his instantly recognizable attention to detail and unique production aesthetic.
Not content to play it safe, and seeking to expand the "producer behind a laptop" paradigm of electronic music, he hand picked a group of accomplished musicians to help him realize a more engaging live experience and Satori Social was born. Combining elements of dub, downtempo, soul, funk, and modern electronic music, the Satori Social project builds on the sonic world of previous Bluetech material, while stretching into new dimensions of evocative modern music, and is evolving into an experience that is more than the sum of it's parts, both in the live experience and new material born from the collaborative writing process. The cast of characters includes Katrina Blackstone, a jazz trained vocalist from NYC with a passionate vocal presence, Russell Scott, an exceptionally talented multi-instrumentalist on various horns, flute, synth and keys, Jason 'Cedar' Miller, an expression percussionist, and Evan Bluetech himself running the live mix and playing keys and synth. Bluetech's sound emerges from his custom-built Reaktor instruments and software based synthesisers as a primordial electro-dub alchemy. While encompassing musical touches from different parts of the globe, he presents a total blend, crossing genres and borders. Bluetech has created a label called Native State Records to release his own music and music from other artists who cross boundaries between ambient/chill and more idm/experimental sounds. Not content to stay at home, Bluetech has toured extensively and performed in Japan, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Croatia, France, Denmark, Mexico, United States, and Canada. Bluetech has released two albums on Aleph Zero Records, an internationally acclaimed chill label run by recording artist Shulman, and is currently working on a third for release in 2008. Aleph Zero brought Bluetech's music to the attention of the international chill audience, and helped to launch his career worldwide through strong support and beautiful packaging. Stay tuned for the next chapter!
IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS FOR BLUETECH, PLEASE LEAVE THEM ON THE COMMENT SECTION....... Thanks ... J
A highly acclaimed producer/remixer and a classically trained pianist, bluetech (aka evan bartholomew) has released five groundbreaking downtempo electronica albums (prima materia, elementary particles, sines & singularities, phoenix rising and the divine invasion) in the span of 7 years and has contributed music to numerous compilations from labels the world over. his versatility as a producer and sound designer shine through in his ambient and tech house side projects (evan bartholomew and evan marc) while his enduring commitment to music has been demonstrated via his own labels native state records and somnia.
working with the waveform records, aleph zero, somnia and thoughtless music labels over the years, he has collaborated with steve hillage and miquette giraudy of system 7 as well as with dr. israel, lynx and janover and tina malia. his recent remix of vieux farka toure's souba souba for six degrees records was one of the stand-out tunes on the release and he is set to remix a track for the upcoming kaya project desert phase remix album. other notable remixes have been for pitch black and sts9. evan's work has, in turn, been remixed by system 7, pitch black and ott and his music was recently licensed to the popular hbo show csi miami.
based in portland, oregon bluetech has built up a huge global fanbase and has maintained a very busy touring schedule across domestic and international borders during the course of his career. recent notable performances include headline spots at earthdance 2009, the rainbow serpent festival in australia, boom in portugal as well as playing at voov, symbiosis, glade and camp bisco.
the new bluetech album love songs to the source will be released on interchill records in may 2010

thanks for being there dr j. you are the best thing to happen to portland radio in many moons. this is the stuff from which my dreams are made. thanks for making tuesdays so anticipated and enjoyable. i never did get the music you left for me. if the cd(s) are still hanging round, let me know. i will make a time to find a way to drop by the studio when you are there.
Craig Burk
It's Craig. I used to host a Sunday evening show and we met one time at the studio.I am interested in how you layer the sounds. I found some of the CDs on your 2/10 playlist on Amazon but now have to assume you were layering tracks. Curious about your playlist. On 2/10, I tuned in at about 9:30 and was very impressed despite my hither-to strong reservations about much electronica. You created a really a nice mix that was not dragged down by a too-obvious 4/4 beat. (I can't handle too much 4/4 on floor.) Will send my email address to you via your name since KBOO may not be OK with my posting it here.
Where is the playlist for 2/10/09
Where is your playlist for tonight. The last 30 minutes or so were pretty good and countered my belief that the beat stuff can be pretty much "you get the point after about two minutes."
GSAF Music
You have been *totally* killing it for the last twenty minutes. Thank you for the music.
Kick ass Beats J
Lovin your show!!!! Thanks for being a voice for our community!!! Peace, Tluv

Dynamic beats
I wanted to say I think you've got some pretty stellar jams being mixed and dropped on your show. I really enjoy when you blend different ethnic genre's, especially when the sitar is involved. Great stuff! Keep it coming.

Lovin the vibes
Hola. Hope your night is going beautifully. I sat down to watch Reefer Madness for the first time tonight, but I couldn't turn off your show! So....I watched the movie to your show rather con diálogo. Now it will keep me company as I further explore the odd sounds of an unidentified critter behind the dryer.
