APA Compass

APA Compass is a collectively produced public affairs program. Our mission is to provide a forum for dialogue, exploration, and dissemination of issues pertinent to Asian Pacific American (APA) communities; to unite, politicize and empower APAs; to raise awareness of social and economic justice issues; to highlight the parallels and intersections between APA experiences and the experiences of other groups; to provide media access, mentorship and training to APAs; to promote APA art and culture; to challenge racist representations and to enable APAs to define themselves.

Kilong Ung's Golden Leaf: A Khmer Rouge Genocide Survivor
Kilong Ung, a Portlander who's the survivor of the Khmer Rouge regime, shares emotional stories from his past. He touches upon how the conflict changed him, how he adapted in America, and what he did for revenge. Kilong is now a role model in the community, and giving back through the Golden Leaf Education Foundation. His memoir is entitled "Golden Leaf: A Khmer Rouge Genocide Survior".

API Communities in Multnomah County: Panel Discussion on Racial Disparities
The Coalition for Communities of Color published a thorough report in 2009, detailing the staggering disparities in racial minorities in Multnomah County. Last month, they developed another report specific to Asian Pacific Islander (API) Communities and the severe inequalities here, as compared to the rest of the nation.
Sarika Mehta spoke with Ann Curry-Stevens, professor of Social Work at Portland State University and co-author of the report, June Arima Schumann and Reverend Joseph Santos-Lyons of APANO.

Thanhha Lai: Award-winning author for Young Adult literature
