Tonights Treasures from the Archive is about Ben Linder. We've put together 2 tapes, one called Target: Ben Linder, and the other from an event recorded by KBOO Volunteers in April 1989, called Remembering Ben.

We also have an interview with Aaron Liss, the technical program manager for Green Empowerment, an organization that was set up to continue the work of Ben Linder in Nicaragua, and worldwide.

For African American History Month, Treasures from the KBOO Archive will play a half hour program produced by George Page in 1977. The second half of the show we'll hear a speech recorded in 1992 by Dick Gregory. The speech was recorded at Reed College.

Molly Ivins (August 30, 1944 – January 31, 2007) was an American newspaper columnist, populist, political commentator, humorist and author.

Her biographer wrote "She was groomed for a gilded life in moneyed Houston, but Molly Ivins left the country club behind to become one of the most provocative, courageous, and influential journalists in American history. Presidents and senators called her for advice; her column ran in 400 newspapers; her books, starting with Molly Ivins Can't Say That, Can She?, were bestsellers."

Ken Kesey - writer, counter-cultural icon (1935 - 2001)

This KBOO exclusive recording is from a talk by writer Ken Kesey, author of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, given in Portland and recorded by KBOO volunteers in 1976.

Kesey attended the University of Oregon with a degree in Speech and Communications. He also received a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship to enroll in the Creative Writing program at Stanford. His classmates in the program included Robert Stone, Larry McMurty, Ken Babbs, and Wendell Berry, all of whom would go on to be noted writers and lifelong friends of Kesey.
