planned giving supports KBOO into the future
A letter to our Members:  We’re writing to you about our Future of KBOO campaign and to encourage your support of KBOO’s future in a sustaining, important way: by adding KBOO to your estate plans.  You are a big part of why we remain so strong and vital to our community. Thank you!  We could not do all that we do without you!

Why is KBOO important?
Twenty years ago, on February 8th, the Telecommunications Act of 1996 went into effect, changing the very nature of radio broadcasting. Programming was local by the physical quality of an FM signal and even commercial stations had local DJs and personalities. Upon the enactment of the act, radio wasn’t being done at the local level anymore; it was being done at the regional and the national level.  Before that, commercial stations crowded the FM dial and did little to reflect their listening communities. KBOO’s founding in 1968 was a direct response to this lack of representation, and has worked since then to be a refuge of independent thought and creative communication; your support makes this happen.

Your membership and help has always been influential in making KBOO a strong proponent of unique perspectives, and I’m so proud to be a part of what we’re building together.   From its beginnings, radio has been part of a broader struggle for popular empowerment, public service, and freedom of expression. KBOO has been fighting this fight for nearly fifty years while the media environment around us continues to constrict and become a mouthpiece for corporate and autocratic interests. Our work together, in supporting broadcast that opens dialogue rather than mutes it, influences the future of media by example.

How can you help?
The future of truly public and participatory media depends, in large part, on the health of the organizations that encourage these qualities. You can help KBOO by ensuring its good health in the world to come by leaving a legacy of support in your future plans.

Planning for the future of your assets may seem like a daunting task, yet there is no better way to protect your interests than by establishing them in a will or estate plan. As circumstances change, so can your plans, but one thing remains the same: a gift from you to KBOO, no matter its size, will have a lasting impact.

We hope that at least 50 of our most committed donors will name KBOO in their planned giving over the calendar year 2016. Will you be one of the 50?   We hope so! Enclosed, please find our new KBOO Planned Giving brochure to help answer questions and encourage your support of KBOO’s future.

And please feel free to call Becky or Monica if you have any questions. Please let us know if you will be one of the 50 Future of KBOO supporters in 2016. We would like to thank you!

Come down to the station for a tour anytime. There are a lot of great things going on and we would love to show you around. Hundreds of active volunteers make KBOO happen every day of the week, every minute of every day, by sharing their skills and passions as well as their music and the stories of their communities. Sharing these stories changes our community for the better. If you are not signed up for KBOO’s email newsletter but would like to stay up to date on what is happening, please let us know and we will make sure you receive these fun, monthly updates.

Talk with a professional about how you might best approach your estate planning; we can provide you with any information you will need for making a planned charitable contribution to KBOO Community Radio. I invite you to join me in building a solid foundation for KBOO’s future.

Please, remember KBOO in your charitable planned giving, along with plans for your family members and friends.

Thank you again for considering a planned gift for the Future of KBOO. You keep KBOO thriving, and we can’t do all that we do without you, our KBOO community — thank you!

With gratitude,
