The Human Rights Campaign, or HRC, held a fund raiser in San Francisco last week to help defeat a November ballot measure that would ban gay marriage in California.
The hrc is one of the largest national gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights organizations, with seven hundred thousand members.
But a number of San Francisco city officials and many prominent gay rights leaders boycotted the event.
Many queer allies and transgender activists do not support the HRC because its leaders supported a federal job discrimination bill that protects lesbians, gay men and bisexuals but leaves transgender people out of the picture.
