Federal regulators have given the environmental go-ahead for a proposed liquefied natural gas, or LNG, terminal near Astoria.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission released its environmental impact statement on the controversial Bradwood Landing Project late this afternoon.
The commission said the terminal would have “limited adverse environmental impacts".
To address those adverse impacts, the commission laid out 110 recommendations to mitigate the most serious environmental effects.
The LNG terminal would import, store and process supercooled liquefied natural gas for movement through pipelines to points across the country.
The backers of the project, Houston-based NorthernStar Natural Gas, can now move forward on the seven hundred million dollar project.
The Company got the approval after submitting a biological assessment to the Federal Agency on Wednesday.
Opponents to the LNG Terminal have voiced concern about the Company’s biological assessment, saying it minimized the project’s environmental impacts.

The Astoria project is one of three proposed LNG terminals in Oregon.
All three are unnecessary, according to critics, because the gas is not necessary to meet Oregon’s energy needs.
Most of the gas would be shipped via pipeline to California.
The environmental group BARK will be hosting a ‘hike the pipe’ event on Tuesday to encourage the public to view the vital ecosystems that will be destroyed when the pipeline is constructed.
