Prisoners from across California have joined a hunger strike that began in Pelican Bay Prison
Prisoners from across California have joined a hunger strike that began in Pelican Bay Prison on the first of July.
According to prison officials, at least sixty five hundred prisoners from one-third of California’s prisons have joined in the strike.
This cross-prison solidarity is reminiscent of a state-wide prisoner strike in Georgia last year, which was organized by cell phones and messaging between prisoners in different facilities.
The prisoners are demanding that officials stop using collective punishment and so-called ‘Security housing units’ to separate and isolate people.
KBOO’s Jenka Soderberg spoke with Isaac Ontiveros of the Prisoner- KBOO
