The International MIddle East Media Center's George Rishmali expresses sorrow in a sorrowing land and truth in a Land of Lies. The news from occupied Palestine is not good today. Friday finds the Palestinian people wondering what really happened to Italian peace activist, Vittorio Arriogoni. Arriogoni had been living The Tawhid and Jihad fundamentalist Salafist group in Gaza, claimed it has no connection with the murder of , whose body was found hanged on Friday at dawn. Arriogoni first came to Gaza with an aid convoy in 2008, and had been working there in solidarity with Palestinians and their struggle against the Israeli occupation.
He was one of a few international reporters and activists who were in Gaza during Israeli Cast Lead offensive in late December 2009. Israel prevented foreign reporters from entering the besieged enclave. The Israeli obsession with controlling the news emerging from the stolen land beneath their feet leads the curious to wonder if Israel itself might not have played a role. Otherwise the killing is inexplicable. It is a striking departure from the historical patterns of violence in the occupied territories. On the other hand there is another pattern of orchestrated ‘random’ mayhem. And that pattern has been established by Israel’s deadly agents of chaos, the Mossad. In the words of Charles Barkley, “I could be wrong, but I doubt it.”Israeli soldiers destroyed a small bedoin settlement yesterday.
In its Weekly Report on Israeli Human Rights Violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories for the week of 07 - 13 April 2011, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) found that 18 Palestinians, including 9 civilians, were killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip. The victims include a grandmother, mother and two children in the same family who were killed in an airstrike.
