Syllart Productions was launched by the famed Senegalese producer Ibrahima Sylla [1956-2013] in the late 1970s. Early acts on the label included Youssou N’Dour’s Etoile de Dakar and Orchestra Baobab. Over the years Sylla worked with many top names in African popular music ouside of Senegal as well, eventually producing over 1,000 albums. His label also acquired historical catalogs from across West Africa in an effort to conserve musical gems and introduce them wider audiences and future generations. That catalog includes Guinea’s legendary Syliphone label. On this week's Africa O-Yé we'll hear selections from Bembeya Jazz National, Etoile de Dakar, Horoya Band, Jardin De Guinée, Orchestra Poly Rythmo, the Rail Band, Star Number One, Super Boiro Band, Watto Siita, Xalam, and more.
