...and media manipulation.
As the world watches the injustices at the hands of police around the world (most recently in Spain, the U.K., the U.S., Canada and Mexico)- and of course, specifically Ferguson, Missouri; an upcoming film documenting the history (and present state) of police violence in Portland, Oregon is soon to be released. We at 'guess who's coming to radio' sat down with Jodi Darby and Erin Yanke, two of the directors of 'Arresting Power: Resisting Police Violence in Portland, Oregon'.
'Resisting Power' "uses archival materials, documentary footage and interviews with community members, activists and organizers to uncover Portland's unique history of policing and race relations, emphasizing its rich history of resistance from the late 1960s to the present." (from http://www.arrestingpower.com/)
We will also discuss how media organizations, advertising companies and other businesses continue to profit from the cultural approrpiation, as well as the struggles of people of African descent... including companies which have historically enacted racist practices.
