Art Focus
Art Focus features interviews with artists, curators, gallerists, writers and other art people. Sometimes we talk about current exhibitions. Sometimes we just gossip.
Our guest On February 9th will be Corey Smith. he's at Worksound, showing !Obsolete Dreams, all mixed media pieces. Smith is an Oregon artist who moved to Los Angeles - a lot of the work riffs on the deterioration of the California Dream (and our country in general).
Michael T. Hensley and Felicity Fenton of Soul Recovery Systems tell us about their projects on Feb. 2nd.
At the Ronna and Eric Hoffman Gallery at Lewis and Clark is "What is a Trade?" Artist Donald Fels collaborated with Indian sign painters to create an exhibition of large scale paintings about trade in India. The large panels have all the intense colors and graphics we expect from sign painters. This particular art form is dying out as computers and inkject printing are taking over. Every piece tells a different story. Curator Linda Tesner was our guest on KBOO the 26th of January to talk about the show.
On January 19th our guest was Christopher Rauschenberg. He has a show of photographs of Parisian flea markets at the Elizabeth Leach Gallery.
Joe Sacco was our guest on the 12th of January. He has a new book out. An investigation of a forgotten crime in the most tormented of places, FOOTNOTES IN GAZA recounts fifty years of history across hundreds of pages of deftly drawn panels. Sacco is one of the world's foremost cartoonists.

action artists at rocksbox
Rocksbox is presenting Action Art this month. You can catch these artists in performance: Mathew Green, Michael Reinsch, Sarah Johnson, Alicia Love McDaid and Sean Patrick Carney. It was Patrick Rock, director of Rocksbox, who suggested I host a panel of them all on KBOO as opposed to just interviewing one artist and I liked the idea. They also give small performance bits during this show...
