Live leftist music, Commemorating "Bloody Wednesday", community syndicalism, one big union
Joe Clement hosts and we hear:
- Norm Diamond talks with The Low Tide Drifters, a Eugene-based folk music group whose songs are full of working-class and environmental themes. They discuss their formative experiences, the importance of music for creating and preserving history for working-class people, and we hear a few mesmerizing songs too.
- Joe talks with a trustee of the Pacific NorthWest Labor History Association about "Commemorating 'Bloody Wednesday'", an event on July 11th in Pier Park that looks back at a pitched battle between striking workers and police in 1934. They consider the vital community support that helped the strikers win and move the whole West Coast labor movement forward.
- Joe also interviews Shane, a community organizer working around housing justice issues, about tenants unions and community syndicalism.
