I find it interesting that The Grateful Dead played almost 20 shows on their Summer 1976 'comeback' tour, before playing the Bay Area, or California at all.  Clearly, they needed an extended run to get back in the groove of performing as an ensemble, polish new and revitalized tunes and 

Whatever the reasons for this lateness, they finally played San Francisco in mid-July; six nights at the Orpheum Theatre.  The second half of this run has received lots of fan (and band) attention over the years, but those earlier shows have some great stuff too.  So today, that's what I'm going to play.
