Art Focus

Art Focus host Amanda Clem speaks with Shawn Creeden, Xi Jie Ng, and Ralph Pugay — a few of the artists who have conceived of the Portland Tropical Gardens  — a temporary public art space and oasis in the middle of Director Park in Downtown Portland, on SW Park and SW Taylor- with filled with tropical plants, seed starts, a tropical water plant garden, and tropical climate simulator, among other offerings!

Portland Tropical Gardens is an artist-run space that envisions Portland’s first public indoor tropical garden. At PTG, you will find different types of plants that thrive in the dynamic and vast region of the tropics. PTG serves as a hub to educate the public about tropical plant-life and also hosts regular programming related to tropical culture and life. It is also an active laboratory that is on an ongoing development cycle. Check back frequently to see all the new growth.

Portland Tropical Gardens is also host to the Center for Art and Public Wellness which will coordinate a regular schedule of public events centered on the intersection between creative expression and holistic well-being.

Portland Tropical Gardens is co-founded by members of the Portland State University School of Art + Design community.
