How this artist is using contemporary mediums and symbology to expand the Black narrative.

Melanie Stevens is an artist and writer and is the creator of the webcomic and graphic novel, ‘Black Picket Fences.'

She is one of the co-founders and editors of Miss Anthology, as well as the co-curator of Nat Turner Project, a mobile gallery space that allows artists of color the freedom to create or express their own language.  She received her BA in Political Science from Yale University and is currently an MFA Candidate at Pacific Northwest College of Art.
