Grateful Dead & Friends

As it's the Fall Equinox, I figured some music from a transitional time in the Grateful Dead made a lot of sense today.  The Grateful Dead strove to find balance in chaos and these shows are no exception.

Plus, our first set of live in studio music ever on Unbroken Chain, featuring Cody's Wheel, who are involved in the Portland Pranksters Ball next weekend.

As it's a transitional weekend, we're trying something different on Unbroken Chain this month:  LIVE MUSIC!

Cody's Wheel is headlining the upcoming 3-night Prankster's Ball at the Bobwhite Theater following the (now sold out) Furthur shows and will play about an hour in the middle of this week's show. Count on hearing some cool non-GD stuff.

And as a prelude to my shift during our October 6th Grateful Dead Marathon, I'll also feature some Grateful Dead from transitional times.

Live in Studio: SICK RATS

Portland's own SICK RATS join us live in studio!

From the Upper Extremities column: David Rose (Freedom Club/The Know): Sick Rats
"...they truly stand out from the pack, offering a fresh take on post-punk by filtering it through a sieve of Midwestern punk and KBD-style scuzz. They possess an ability to retain energy and urgency despite a somewhat plodding tempo (comparatively to what we often expect on the punk/hc 'circuit'), which can be attributed to jagged/shrill guitar interplay with a layer of swaggering low-end. And did I mention commanding vocals from a banshee of a frontwoman and plenty of feedback? Sick Rats are sick shit!"

Watch them in action here and get ready!
