Don Merrill talks with Portlanders and the Salvation Army about perceptions about bell ringers.

Paul Sowards is a bell ringer for the Salvation Army in Wilsonville, Oregon. He says the organization has saved his life as well as let him reach out to people in his own unique way. But for a secular community like Portland, the Salvation Army is viewed skeptically for its views on physician assisted suicide, marriage and abortion. Don Merrill talks with ordinary people about their strong reactions to bell ringers and the Salvation Army in an effort to understand and explain them. He also talks with Portland Salvation Army Regional Coordinator, Major Nancy Diehle.
