Dmae Roberts presents a special Oregon Treasures edition of Stage and Studio.  Sitka Center for Art and Ecology celebrates its 40th anniversary on August 28th. The picturesque center nestled in beautiful old growth forest of  Sitka Spruce has nourished the talents of writers, visual artists and scientists for four decades. Through workshops and residencies, the Sitka Center remains a cherished place of learning for people throughout the Northwest and Northern California.   

Dmae Roberts visited with staff, founders, teachers and participants to learn more about this one-of-a-kind Oregon Treasure. This piece is part of the Oregon Treasures series funded by a Regional Arts and Culture Council's individual artist project grant.

Jessica Wallenfels: "Find Me Beside You"

Host Dmae Roberts features Jessica Wallenfels' world premiere of her original rock ballet "Find Me Beside You." The show is a Many Hats Collaboration that tells the story of a group of teens in 1968 Belfast who have formed their own family. With a 10-piece ensemble of actors, singers and musicians, this new summer production blends rock opera and physical theatre. Guests are: Jessica Wallenfels, director/choregrapher, Eric Nordin, musical director,  and Dave Cole, lead actor.  The show runs August 4th through 14th.

The Flute Fandango

Dmae Roberts focuses on the importance of music education with The Flute Alliance. They're staging the Flute Fandango on Aug. 6th at Oaks Amusement Park in Portland. The international gathering of flutists will attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records. Denise Westby, founder of Flute Alliance and John Gibson, president of The Music Education Assistance Program join Dmae to talk about kids and music. Also joining them is Jeffrey Chapman, a flutist and a student at Fowler Middle school. The three of them also share cuts from the recent Flute Alliance Boot camp.
