Erin Barnhart and Sarah Morgan discuss their support for community led initiatives
Lilla Watson , Indigenous Australian activist said: “If you have come here to help me, you are wasting our time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”

Tune in this Friday for a conversation on social justice work and what we should all keep in mind when doing social justice work in communities that are not our own.

Many of us see the widespread social inequalities that exist in the world and want to do something about it. But can we do more damage than good when we try to help a community that is not our own? Can we end up contributing to the problem, instead of the solution even if this is not our intention? To answer these questions we will be joined by an incredible guest, Erin Barnhart who teaches students from a diversity of countries to be true supporters and allies of the communities they want to work with.

Erin Barnhart, Ph.D. serves as Graduate Program Director with IPSL for their Master of Arts in International Development and Service program at Concordia University. In addition, she is the Founder & President of Effective Altruism, LLC and serves on the Board of Directors for the Building Bridges Coalition and Volunteer Positive, on the advisory board for the American Gap Association, as a member of the Oregon Committee on Volunteerism, and as an adjunct professor at the University of Oregon and Concordia University.

We will also be joined by Sarah Morgan, recent graduate of the Master of Arts in International Development and Service program at Concordia University. She is the Program Coordinator for Asante Ministries International, an east-African founded non-profit located in Portland.
