29. On-Air Volunteers' Rights and Responsibilities
ON-AIR VOLUNTEERS' RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Rights
1. To have good equipment and be adequately trained to operate it.
2. To be informed about relevant Federal Communications Commission regulations and KBOO policies.
3. To be given advance notice of any preemptions, as soon as reasonably possible after the preemption decision has been made.
4. To have help from programming staff in improving your performance.
5. To ask questions and voice complaints or criticisms and get a response.
6. To control access to the station after business hours during your air shift, as specified in the Station Access Policy.
7. To file a written appeal with the Program Director concerning any material included by KBOO on your program, and to appeal the Program Director's decision to the Program Committee.
Responsibilities
1. Answer the airroom phone outside of normal business hours and direct calls or take messages if necessary.
2. Stay apprised of what is going on at KBOO by reading the bulletin boards and checking your mailbox.
3. Have your current phone number and address on file with the Volunteer Coordinator.
4. Report equipment malfunctions on the Equipment Problems Log in the airroom.
5. Do not support or oppose on the air any candidate for political office.
6. Do not play songs which may promote drug use.
7. Comply with the Station Access Policy.
8. Log all scheduled material, air all logged material, and take at least one set of meter readings during your shift.
9. Play all underwriting and News and Public Affairs Fund announcements without comment.
10. Do not bring food or beverages into the airroom or production rooms.
11. Clean up your messes at the station and turn out lights not being used.
12. Refile all station material.
13. Stay within allotted times for your air shift.
14. Give station I.D. at least once an hour, as close to the hour as possible.
15. Be respectful of individuals in the building.
16. Arrive on time for your air shift.
17. Inform the Program Director at least two days in advance when you cannot make your shift. If you are unable to or have not notified the Program Director in advance, do your shift unless you find a qualified air operator to take your place.
18. Comply with the Obscenity/Indecency Policy.
19. Do not broadcast libelous statements (false statements of fact about an identifiable person tending to injure that person's reputation).
20. Comply with the Payola/Plugola Policy.
21. Do not attack on the air the personal character of an identified person or group.
22. Advise anyone called by telephone while on the air, or to be taped for later broadcast, of that fact.
23. Do not advocate on the air breaking the law.
24. Do not smoke in an undesignated area.
25. Comply with the Ticket Policy.
26. Do not knowingly broadcast hoaxes (false information concerning a crime or catastrophe).
27. Do not allow anyone without a license to substitute on your air shift.
28. Comply with the Responsibility of Engineers for Broadcast Continuity policy.
29. Do not harass on the air a private figure.
30. Compensate KBOO for any equipment damaged due to carelessness or neglect.
31. Pitch and cooperate with pledge shift supervisors during your shift.
32. Do not bring illegal drugs to the station.
33. Do not disparage KBOO on the air (as opposed to a principled dissent from a policy or action by KBOO as an organization as part of a legitimate discussion of that issue).
34. Do not make negative comments about another program or programmer on the air.
35. Do not steal or willfully destroy KBOO property.
36. Do not sexually harass anyone at the station.
37. Do not be rude on the air to an individual or group.
38. Do not miss more than 20 percent of your air shifts per year.
39. Do not change your format without approval of the Program Director.
40. Comply with any other duties established by the FCC, KBOO policy, or KBOO staff members.
41. Do not engage in any other conduct harmful to KBOO.
