30. Responsibility of Engineers for Broadcast Continuity
RESPONSIBILITY OF ENGINEERS FOR BROADCAST CONTINUITY
The engineer is responsible for the broadcast operation of KBOO. In addition to the engineer's duties during his/her shift (logs, meter readings, I.D.s, etc.), the engineer is responsible for providing continuity if the person whose shift follows arrives late or fails to arrive at all. If the engineer has to fill in beyond his/her prescribed shift, he/she shall immediately attempt to contact an appropriate staff member who can either find a substitute, locate the regular engineer, or come in him/herself to relieve the engineer, or an appropriate substitute, and stay at least 30 minutes beyond his/her shift to allow for relief to arrive. If the engineer cannot reach a staff member or substitute and absolutely has to leave, he/she shall do a sign-off, turn the station of the air, and post a note on the front door stating that he/she had to leave and including the phone number of a staff member so that the next engineer can call to get let into the station.
