March 9th, 7:00 p.m. “The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil”.
The film documents Cuba’s emergency transition to local organic agriculture, renewable energy, and large-scale mass transit. The transition occurred following the Soviet collapse in 1990, when their massive subsidies of imported oil and food to Cuba were halted. First Unitarian Church, 1011 SW 12th Avenue. The Community for Earth of the First Unitarian Church present the 2007 Heart of the Earth Film Series. The fourth annual series will be held March 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th and features environmental documentary films that educate, inform and inspire. All films will be presented at First Unitarian Church, 1011 SW 12th Avenue, and donations are requested.
