Candlelit Concert for Clean Energy
First-Ever Candlelit Concert for Clean Energy:
Best-of-Portland Music Scene in a Unique, Low Carbon Footprint Setting
Portland, OR July 28, 2010—Portland’s first-ever Candlelit Concert for Clean Energy, presented by The Music Studio on Harrison Hill, will take place on Saturday, September 11 at 7:30 pm.
The concert will take place at Music Studio’s host facility, St. David of Wales Episcopal Church, 2800 SE Harrison Street in Southeast Portland (between Division and Hawthorne on 28th Avenue). The diverse list of performers – all of them seasoned performers and all of them donating their time and talent – will represent a cross-section of the musicians and instructors associated with the Music Studio on Harrison Hill… plus other selected individuals and ensembles from the Portland area and the greater Northwest.
Imagine experiencing music as Mozart might have presented it 225 years ago. No electric lighting – all candlelit. No electronic amplification – all acoustic. No printed program – rather, a surprising and enchanting program with a warm, spontaneous feel. Now imagine hearing not only the dulcet sounds of Mozart’s era, but also an eclectic mix of crossover, jazz, folk and pop pieces from the 21st Century – many of them original, even a didgeridoo or two. All presented by some of the most accomplished musicians, teachers and composers in the Portland area today.
General admission for this event is a $10 donation, $7 for students and seniors and are for sale right now at MusicStudioHarrisonHill.com or at the door the night of the show. Exactly half the proceeds will go toward individuals and families affected by the Gulf oil spill (for areas not covered by BP, such as grocery vouchers, legal assistance, personal care, job training and community action). The other half will go towards various energy efficiency improvements and retrofits at the Music Studio’s host facilities at St. David’s.
If you’re interested in a unique and memorable event that will both showcase the best of musical Portland and benefit the cause of sustainability, mark your calendar now.
