With Joe on vacation, Abe checks in on the fracas between the NAACP and the Teabaggers. This just in: some members of the Tea Party movement have said racist things in public, and displayed racist slogans and images at public events. This is apparently completely acceptable in conservative circles. What's not acceptable, it seems, is pointing out the public racism when it happens.
A dustup between the NAACP and the Tea Party movement throws the racist streak in modern conservatism into stark, ugly relief. It's the next chapter in a sordid tale that predates our Republic. But the good news? The Tea Party's visible virulence is proof that things are getting better.
