Un|Herd #12: Dinner & the Main Course

Welcome to Un-herd Archives episode 12, dating back to June 1st 2009. The guest is Dinner and the Main Course. This is a band that grew on me, not that I was displeased with their performance, but it took some time for their style to really sink in to my psyche. Considering themselves a new-no-wave band, they actually deliver. I initially discovered the brothers in the band, TJ and Dylan Riley, through an improvisational music night that I hosted back in 2008. We became friends and we booked shows together with their improve group, Use Value. Why bring this up? Their background was noise and free jazz and so when you put that with driving groovy drums and grunting female vocals, you do indeed gain this no-wave quality – something I wasn’t expecting when I first heard them play on June 1st 2009. I last spoke with them in October 2009 just before relocating to Burbank California; they are no longer performing. Related projects include Floridians and Byproduct. So please kick back or putz around and enjoy this document of Dinner and the Main Course.
