Blues Night - Hot Jazz, Cool Blues
The Tigard High School Guitar and Jazz Bands are putting on Blues Night, a concert-dance-dessert from 7 – 9PM, Friday, March 12th at the Tigard High cafeteria. Tickets are $5 and drinks and dessert will be available for $1 each. This is an opportunity to hear the finest in big band jazz and smoking guitar blues, alternating performances on two stages in a nightclub-like setting. Proceeds from the event will benefit the music program at Tigard High School.
The Guitar Program, under the direction of Jerry King, could well be the most outstanding guitar instruction program in the country, with more than 120 students participating each year. There are four course levels available and all students are taught to read music and what it takes to put on professional performances. Other than piano, more Americans play the guitar than any other instrument, yet very few opportunities for formal training in a class setting are available. The students play a wide range of music in the program, from top 40 hits their parents rocked to in the 1970’s, to jazz, metal and modern “indy” rock. The jazz band is a traditional 20+ piece “big band” which has earned many awards and will be performing during spring break in Disneyland.
Blues Night features a range of blues songs, from rockabilly to swing and is sure to please audiences of all ages. Last year the event was packed and many enjoyed the opportunity to boogie on the dance floor. Tickets will be available at the door.
