Joseph Gallivan interviews artist Molly Alloy.

On Tuesday September 27, 2016, Joseph Gallivan interviews artist Molly Alloy about her shows  “Embody” at the Red E Café and “Ferguson Water” at Portland Community College Cascade Campus.

In “Embody,” paintings of the artist’s nude form explore her process of working through an illness, car crash injuries and childhood sexual trauma.

Molly Alloy is originally from St Louis, Missouri. “Ferguson Water” will be installed at PCC for a month from October 10th. It involves bringing drinking water from Ferguson Missouri to Portland for gallery-goers to drink.

This recording was edited by KBOO volunteer Sam Parrish.

A live auction will be held at the Red E café on the evening of Friday Sept 30 to benefit the Oregon Queer Youth Summit.

“Embody” runs from Sept. 8 to Oct. 11 2016.

Molly Alloy bio:

I was born and raised in St. Louis, studied art in upstate New York, and made my home in Portland in 2008. Primarily a sculptor and installation artist, I work in steel and a diversity of other materials. My aesthetic inspiration comes primarily from street art, playgrounds and pop culture; conceptually I filter my cultural surroundings through a self-consciously personal lens. I strive to create beautiful objects and spaces that are whimsical, provocative, and authentic.
