Leigh assisted Venerable Ayya Khema starting in 1994, and has been leading retreats on his own since 1997 in both Europe and North America.

Drop Beats, Not Bombs:  A night of Music, Consciousness, Celebration, and Support, benefiting the Portland Central American Solidarity Committee’s peace work.  This event will be held TONIGHT, 9:00 pm, at Rotture, located at 315 SE 3rd AVE in Portland OR.   Drop Beats, Not Bombs is a Hip Hop show that will feature 2Mex, Mic Crenshaw, Serge Severe, Rose Bent, M4, and Ubuntu Project. Expect special guests, artists, dancers, and speakers. Former soldiers now turned peace activists and youth advocates will also share words at the event, which kicks off the "No Soy El Army" Peace Tour.   There will be a donation at the door; more information at rotture.com

Police Misconduct in Colorado

A video was released last week portraying Denver police Officers beating a gay couple without apparent provocation.  In response, members of Denver's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community joined in calls for a zero tolerance policy on excessive force violations and demanded the termination of the offending officers.

This news comes as the Denver Police Department and the Denver Jail have come under fire for three high-profile cases of excessive force.  KBOO's Rebecca Nay spoke with Crystal Middlestat, who is a co-director of Colorado's Anti-Violence Program.
