ICE Out of Oregon, End Detentions and Deportations Now

On July 9th, 2015 as part of a national week of action to #EndDetention the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition organized a rally which called for: the end the collaboration between Portland police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), an end to deportations so families can stay together, the end of detention and the ICE bed quota, and for the closure of private prisons and detention centers. The Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition is a coalition of local immigrant rights, faith, and labor groups, including leaders in the national #Not1More campaign, the New Sanctuary Movement, and the National Immigrant Youth Alliance. The rally took place in downtown Portland and included testimony of family members of Portlanders who are in detention as well an activist calling for Portland to divest from private prisons and a Christian minister who spoke of our moral duty as a nation to protect immigrants.
