Short Description:
The Hormone Reset Diet with Dr. Sara Gottfried

Most people don’t think about hormones. But when you develop resistance to your seven major metabolic hormones—cortisol, thyroid, testosterone, growth hormone, leptin, insulin, and estrogen—your body adjusts by ultimately slowing down your metabolism. And a slower metabolism leads to weight gain and difficulty losing weight. Hormone imbalances can lead to insatiable hunger, stress eating, sugar cravings, food addictions and stubborn fat, among other things., The solution, Dr. Sara Gottfried contends, is to reset the efficiency of your hormones by repairing and growing new hormone receptors.

Vitamania: Our Obsessive Quest for Nutritional Perfection by Catherine Price

Most of us know nothing about vitamins. What's more, what we think we know is harming both our personal nutrition and our national health. By focusing on vitamins at the expense of everything else, we've become blind to the bigger picture: despite our belief that vitamins are an absolute good--and the more of them, the better--vitamins are actually small and surprisingly mysterious pieces of a much larger nutritional puzzle. In Vitamania, award-winning journalist Catherine Price offers a lucid and lively journey through our cherished yet misguided beliefs about vitamins, and reveals a straightforward, blessedly anxiety-free path to enjoyable eating and good health.

Watch Your Back! by Dr. Richard Deyo

Over the past twenty years, treatment of back pain has become ever more expensive and intensive. Use of MRI scans, narcotic painkillers, injections, and invasive spine surgery have all grown by several hundred percent, yet annual surveys of people with back pain report steadily worse impairments.  Though it may seem counterintuitive, fewer medical interventions may produce better results with back pain. Expecting a probe, a pill, or a procedure to cure is usually unrealistic, yet entire industries promote the notion that someone else will "fix" you. Watch Your Back! exposes these flaws in the current approach to back pain, along with the profit motives and conflicts of interest behind many of them. Richard A.
