A Henry Cow/Art Bears Extravaganza
Over the past 1-2 years, A DIfferent Nature has presented, intermittently, a group of individual artists who made up the groups Henry Cow and Art Bears. Fred Frith, Dagmar Krause, Lindsay Cooper, and Chris Cutler--all members of one or both of these bands all later went on to other projects--either solo or with others, but tonight's program will feature the bands Henry Cow and Art Bears.

Henry Cow was an avant-rock band, formed in 1968 at Cambridge Untiverity by multiinstrumentalists Fred Frith and Tim Hodgkinson. They were joined by bassoonist Lindsay Cooper, singer Dagmar Kraus, and  drummer and percussionist Chris Cooper, among others. Henry Cow eventually dissolved in the late 1970s, and out of that dissolution Art Bears was fomed by Fred Frith, Chris Cooper, and Dagmar Kraus.

Henry Cow and Art Bears were experimental and avant guard, and also deeply anticapitalist. Some listeners may find  the music challenging--it can seem dissonant and idiosyncratic, but ultimately very listenable and rewarding. Grace is hosting.
