During the month of September, the Johnson Creek Watershed Council is hosting the Cycle Stroll, a benefit event where participants raise money for the miles they travel on the Springwater Corridor Trail. Participants ride their bikes, walk, run, jog, skateboard, or dogsled (you get the idea, any form of motion is welcome) along the Springwater Corridor Trail, logging their miles and collecting pledges from family, friends, and colleagues. Participants complete miles at their own pace at any time during the month. Pledges can be per-mile or a flat donation. Donations raised through this event will support the Council's restoration, education and outreach programs. “Live Debris Under the Sea”, a kid-friendly, plastics-reuse installation by Taylor Cass Stevenson, is opening at SCRAP's Re:Vision Gallery TODAY, with the opening reception from 4:30-6:30 pm. Stevenson has curated and exhibited both locally and internationally, always focusing on issues of reuse and cultural exchange around environmental issues. The show will run through September 30th. Drop Beats, Not Bombs is a Hip Hop show that will feature 2Mex, Mic Crenshaw, Serge Severe, Rose Bent, M4, and Ubuntu Project. Expect special guests, artists, dancers, and speakers. Vivien Sansour from Canaan Fair Trade, will be speaking about her work with the fair trade farmers of the Palestine Fair Trade Association. She will show their pictures, tell their stories, and talk about agriculture as a form of resistance. She led the Olive Tree Circus to tour Palestine in 2008. The Olive Tree Circus used humor, play, music and art to help Palestinian farmers access their olive fields during the harvest. The event is a joint production of PlayWrite and Bienestar. The ideas for the plays are generated entirely by the student writers.
