Sarah Slipper and Valory J. Lawrence doing great work!

I talked with Artistic Director Sarah Slipper and Dancer Lex Dones of Northwest Dance Project today. Loved meeting Sarah after years of seeing her dance for Oregon Ballet Theatre and seeing her choreography for some of the indie dance companies. She started the NW Dance Project her self and it sounds like they're doig some exciting original new work. We talked about about all their summer shows featuring new contemporary World Premiere dance. And in the second half, Valory J.

Thinking of the classics

On today's Stage and Studio, I talked with Connor Kerns and Debbie Hunter who have been running Quintessence Language and Imagination Theatre concentrating on the classics and Connor's original plays. They started in 2001 and it's been a labor of love for most of this decade. Check out their interview about a new adaptation of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice."

A Playwrights Festival and a student graduates

Tomorrow on Stage and Studio, I feature JAW, A Playwrights Festival with Portland Center Stage's Associate Artistic Director Rose Riordan and Playwright Andrea Stolowitz. We'll talk about this two-week festival of new plays now in its 11th year!

Also Producer Tali Singer has a brand new feature piece on a student at Portland Actors Conservatory under the direction of Artistic Director Beth Harper... Tune in at 11am for a whole half hour of Portland arts... Or online at http://kboo.fm Take care, Dma

Anthony Heald, OSF actor

Here's the latest Stage and Studio Dmae with Anthony Healdshow online with Actor Anthony Heald (Boston Public/Boston Legal) talking about his roles at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and the life of the actor. I really enjoyed meeting him. He was a very accessible, down to earth "call me Tony" kind of guy. Very nice man considering he's played some heavies like Iago and Vice Principal Gruber on BP. If you have a chance, give it a listen...

King Lear and a Casting Director

Categories:

Portland Actors Ensemble is one of the oldest Shakespeare in the Parks groups in the country.  For 40 years, they've offered free Shakespeare every summer and have trained countless young actors in performing the bard's plays. Hear more about it on Stage and Studio.  Also check out the interview with Casting Director Lana Veenker. She's cast hundreds of Portland actors in the current cable show "Leverage" and the Harrison Ford movie "The Crowley Project." She's supporting Senate Bill 621 which would make more tax incentives for film and TV producers. Hear how it could make Oregon millions of dollars.

From Dancers to Novelist

I spoke with three dancers at the Portland Project at Performance Works Northwest, an umbrella organization for some of the most skillfull dancers in Portland. Linda Austin started this venue ten years ago. She's joined on today's Stage and Studio with Anne Furfey and Terry Mathern to talk about this weekend's collaborative dance show.

Two different filmmakers

I had a great time talking about the art of independent filmmaking from the Asian American perspective with Ivy Lin and Patti Duncan. Now they had never met before and heard clips of each other's work the same time as the audience had. This show was a little different than usual talks about the latest performing arts events. I'm trying to find more theme-oriented topics for future shows as well. Check out this interview
