Much of what is said about responding to climate change and the coming climate crisis puts the responsibility on the consumer, on the individual.  We're told to buy fluorescent light bulbs, or hybrid cars, or recycled paper, or other products - and that's supposed to somehow save us from massive species extinction.  Or we hear about 'carbon trading', a system that will allow the largest polluters to keep polluting at the same level.
