This is part two - an update on the situation in Gaza, from Rami Almeghari in Maghazi Refugee Camp outside Gaza City.  She also speaks with Pennie Quinton in Nablus, where a 'Safe Place for Gaza' has been created to allow Palestinian factions to come together to express their support with their fellow Palestinians in Gaza.

On the Jan 15 Radiozine, KBOO hosts a two part program on the crisis in Gaza. First, a debate on the role of Israel in the crisis. Then, an update on what's happening there.  This is part one.  Bob Horenstein, the Communications Director of the Jewish Federation of Portland voices his support of the current Israel invasion of the Gaza strip.  He is opposed by Professor Mazin Qumsiyeh, a former Yale University Professor, currently at Bethlehem University, and author of the book, Sharing the Land of Canaan. 

A total of 45 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces in Gaza on Friday; bringing the number of Palestinians killed in the ongoing Israeli offensive to one thousand, one hundred sixty seven, including three hundred seventy children and eighty five women.
At least 5200, including 1745 children, have been wounded.

13 Israelis have been killed in the 20 days of Israeli attacks, nine of whom were soldiers.

Four of those killed on Friday were identified as resistance fighters.  The four were killed in two separate airstrikes in Gaza City and Rafah.

Host Ani Haines speaks with Nael Saker about the upsurge of violence in Gaza.

Nael Saker works with the Arab American Cultural Center of Oregon.  While he is now a U.S. citizen, Nael is originally from Gaza City, where his brother and sisters still live.

International pressure is mounting to stop the violence and to demand humanitarian aid be allowed to the region. 

Attacks are continuing, even as talk of a ceasefire is underway.
