Tillicum Wawa

"Tillicum Wawa: Voices of the People"
is

Rhonda "Shusli" Baseler
Eugene Johnson

“Tillicum Wawa” is a Chinook Jargon phrase which, loosely translated, means “The people speak”.

Chinook Jargon was a trade language used by Natives in this region before Europeans arrived here. It was a combination of Salish, Nootka, and Chinook languages.  After explorers, traders, and other non-natives arrived in this area, French and English words were integrated into the jargon.  It was widely used to communicate between people of different tribes, nationalities, and races.

That is why we chose the name.  Tillicum Wawa is here to help represent the under-represented voice of the Native peoples of this nation. To be a “voice for the voiceless”.

If you or anyone you know needs help for domestic or sexual violence, please contact the NAYA Family Center. Go to services and "The Healing Circle" for more information from the NAYA website.

We also discussed water issues in Indian Country and played many wonderful and appropriate songs for both subjects.

We hope you enjoyed our show today with our special guest Charles Littleleaf.! He is a renown flute player and maker. His mentor was R. Carlos Nakai, the renown Native musician. He has a CD out now called Ancient Reflections. He has a new CD coming out soon called "Essence of Life".

His wife and manager , Vicky, was with him. They live on the Warm Springs reservation here in Oregon. He is very in touch with our Mother Earth and make's his flutes out of her spirit. in the trees.

"There seems to be a song for everything. We listen to the songs of wind and the songs of water. When we watch the clouds or the stars at night, we will find a song from their natural elements, which always needs to be appreciated and expressed."

We feel honored to have had these guests and Charles Littleleaf's music, and we  will have them back on asap.! We hope you all liked to hear his soothing and compelling music.

If you liked this show and or have any suggestions for future shows, please feel free to email us, write in the "comments" or call us (503) 231-8032, to voice your requests.

We are dedicating this week's show, 5/28/10 to Our Mother Earth. In light of all the the autrocities that are occuring to her all the time and especially right now in the gulf of Mexico. The music will reflect our respect and encourage us , hopefully , to pray and know, that the Great One is really in control-always. Let the evil greedy ones see the error of their ways and enlighten them to the world's real needs. The People..

We hope you enjoy the show and the music and take the time to pray, to meditate and to  speak up as we have always done well.

Cudos to  President Obama for putting a stop on all oil well drilling -on the land,  in shallow waters and in the deep seas.! That means Alaska, who were getting equipment in place for more drilling. We must demand the stop be in place until the day comes if or when the companies  have the technology to NOT have any leaks at all, and in case something happens, they must have the technolgy to fix it NOW!

But more realistically we need to go to other types of fuel. Electric, solar, wind and horse power, and leave the oil in the ground.

We Natives have always lived in balance with our Mother. And it is up to us to stop the insanity, and disrespect of our Earth.

One can call Our Pres @ 1-202-456-1414, his web is www.whitehouse.gov to send him your thoughts on these matters.

We hope you like the show this week. Let us know by posting your "comments" on our "Indian Country" page. Your calls into the studio are great and we love to hear from you!. The station prefers that our listeners post comments on the "comments" tab at our "Indian Country" page.  That way they know you are listening. And it will show the need to have an American Indian show, like ours, on the KBOO radio station.

We will be back on in 2 weeks 6/11/10. Another show will demo their shows like we are demoing ours , So we will allternate with us every other week. This next Friday 6/4/10 is a folk music show with Flower Elliott. It should be good also.

We hope you will join us again on 6/11/10 Fri from 1:30-3:00pm

Thank you / Wado , Samantha
